BARRERA FAMILY

Enrique Barrera and Lawrence Bunning are standing a few feet away from the highway sign.

PLATICA: Miguel, Bebbe y Olivia

Olivia recalls arriving to ST. Paul in the early 50’s and looking for a place to stay.  Arturo y Maria Salinas vacated their place so that the Barrera’s could have more space for their large family.

ONCE UPON A TIME

The parents of a future matrimony moved from the northern part of Old Mexico into the area now called Asherton, Texas.   In the 40’s and 50’s work was limited and wages were low.  After WWII there was a lot of labor competition.  Many of the families were forced to move north to find work and support their families.

The Barreras moved to Oregon and these signs will be part of their daily view for many decades.
