REUNIÓN    DE    PIONEROS
DOMINGO, JUNIO 26, 2011
3:00-6:00 P.M.

RUBIS HALL, IGLESIA ST. LUKE
WOODBURN, OREGON
“Pioneros de Oregón y Futura Generación”
“Oregon Pioneers and Future Generation”

ENGLISH  Many migrants came to the area more than 50 years ago.  Migratory life in the area around St. Paul and surrounding communities begun in the early 1940’s.  We have new information to share with our audience regarding this special period.

ENGLISH During WW II migrants had a hard time making a living and traveled far away from their home town to find work.  According to the recollection of Maximiano “Mikes” Salinas and Crucita Garcia, four men traveled north on  99E in 1943 and their car broke down. As they were attending the mechanical needs of their car a man named Harry Koessler invited them to work; their journey to Washington came to a stop.  This experience will give birth to a Migratory Movement of families who principally resided in the southwest especially Asherton, Texas.  One might say thanks to their car trouble, work was found by migrants then and had an impact on future migrant/immigrant families.

ENGLISH….FAITH    When people travel and venture into unknown areas and leave all their possessions behind they turn to their FAITH.  Once migrants arrived to Marion County a few years later Padre Ernesto Bravo would come to support the community; he was well received by all migrant workers.   Padre Bravo and a migrant family have a chat in one of the many camps in the Marion County area.

ENGLISH  Children and adults were a common unit in the fields especially during the strawberry season.
